Emberfall Saga

Emberfall Saga is the RPG I recommend to friends who think mobile role-playing games are all menus and grinding. The writing is genuinely good, the party members have distinct voices, and the turn-based combat rewards planning your elemental combos.

The whole campaign is downloaded up front, so you can play the full twenty-hour story on a plane with no problem. I appreciated that the save system is generous — I never lost progress, even when I closed the app mid-battle.

Progression is well paced. New skills unlock at a steady clip, and the boss fights force you to actually rethink your setup instead of button-mashing. It's a real adventure that respects your time.
